any ideas?

im looking to develop a research of ideas of how one's self is "characterized" by their actions, possessions, and the people they are surrounded with. not necessarily about self image, but the placement of the "self" amongst others. how does one fit in? how does one change theirself to meld into the norm.

Thats a good idea I think that it is more of a "guys" approach to self image because typically girls are the ones that have self image problems but I think that it is an interesting idea!!

I think you should choose a specific text you would like to focus on. Once you do that, you can start sorting your ideas out and will get a better idea of what you want your main focus and thesis to be

The idea that not just society, but a person's possessions help shape a person is a perfectly legitimate idea, and one that isn't often considered. For example what does it say about Craig in "Blankets" that he doesn't burn the blanket Raina made him? How did wearing shoes change the Monkey King in "American Born Chinese"? You may be able to incorporate the dolls from "The Bluest Eye" as well. Good idea.
